CONCEPT
Casa das Muralhas is a Housing Tourism unit with 8 Double Bedrooms with Private Bathroom, Bistro Bar, a Patio with Snack-Bar and a Swimming Pool.
The rooms are marked by their high ceilings and granite walls combined with all the comforts of a modern home and the charm of a centenary building.
In the Patio, full of history, it is possible to see Serra da Estrela, the city and part of the wall of the old Castle, which now gives name to our house.
HISTORY
Built in the mid-19th century by Alberto Deodato da Costa Rato, 2nd Mayor of Covilhã, as a family home, it was later acquired by the Santos Pinto family, remaining in the possession of their heirs until the mid-60’s.
In the 70’s, the house suffered its first major change to accommodate the Externato April 25, becoming a primary school and remaining so for many years.
In the second half of the 80’s, the Cava Juliana Association provisionally installed its headquarters in the building and created, on the ground floor, the Eduardo Malta museum.
In the early 90’s, the National Mountaineering Club, an important institution in the city, transfered its registered office for this property. After a few years, due to the advanced state of degradation of the house, the club decided to abandon it, initiating the decline of the house.
With the arrival of the new millennium, the Institute Maria da Conceição Saraiva recognizing the equity value of the house, acquired the property with the intuit of restoring it. Unable to fulfill the project, it decided to put it on sale, being left to abandon for about 15 years.
In February 2016, the Rogado & Rendeiro, Lda. purchased the property in order to perpetuate all its memory through a differentiating tourism project. Thus, after more than two years of project and reconstruction works, Casa das Muralhas was born.
Operating since September 2018, it is assumed as a hotel unit of excellence that offers its visitors a genuine experience and quality.
